Imagine that you approach someone who has never stepped inside a church or paused long enough on a religious channel to understand what the preacher was shouting about. This is the case for many Americans regarding the question, "Are you saved?" The initial response might be, "Saved from what?" It's a logical reply. Yet too many of us as Christians don't really know how to answer that...

means. It was Christmastime, and I was lying in my bed and looking up at the television set on the wall. Spinning the dial, I came to a worship service that was coming from a church in California. The pastor was reading the Christmas story from Luke. I had heard this text read a multitude of times. “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). As I heard the story this time I said to myself, “Oh, that is what I need right now. I need a savior.”
